Propel Lowell’s into 2025

Below is our Annual Appeal letter, and this year, we have a special addendum we’re delivering via a short video.

Corporate giving, Legacy giving, and gift memberships to family membesr all make a difference to Lowell’s in 2025.

A Letter from Executive Director Graham McKay and Chairman Bob Barton

As we reflect on our 17th year as a not-for-profit organization, we are reminded how important your support is to us. Donations from you and others make our work possible. Thanks to your generosity, Lowell’s Boat Shop has been able to preserve our heritage and continue to offer new and innovative programming for local youth.

Your support has been crucial in empowering another generation of leaders and problem solvers. This year, we’ve faced unique challenges, but together, we have risen to meet them. In the absence of some key staff this summer, our junior staff stepped in to keep things running smoothly.

Looking ahead, we are excited about broadening our reach and deepening our impact. In 2025, we aim to expand our waterfront programming to include communities along the river from Lawrence and Haverhill to Newburyport and Salisbury. This initiative will acquaint and endear youth along the watershed with “their stretch” of the river.

Your help will make it possible. We invite you to renew your commitment to Lowell’s Boat shop by making a gift today. Your contribution directly supports our preservation and education programs.

Thank you for standing with us and for believing in the power of our community.

From William Tymowski’s college essay:

Five years ago, when I was 12, my parents encouraged (forced) me to go on on a week-long sailing trip on a schooner up the coast into Maine offered by Lowell’s Boat Shop. I so desperately did NOT want to attend.

Throughout this trip, despite my intense desire to hate every minute of it, I got to know the Lowell’s Staff. At the end, they asked why I wasn’t a part of the Lowell’s apprentice program for high schoolers, a question for which I thought had a pretty obvious answer:

“I have two years until I’m in high school.”
”Nonsense,” they said. “If you can go on this trip, you can apply now.”

So that’s what I did.
